RYAN HOLIDAY – How to keep your ego in check on the way to success #041

Ryan Holiday witnessed, first hand, the destructive force of ego when his boss and mentor unraveled from leadership at American Apparel – destroying his company and reputation.

Throughout history, leaders have wrestled with the nature of their own egos – most of all in the spoils of success. In Ryan’s book, Ego is the Enemy, he takes us along a journey of mythology, history, and leadership to reveal the greatest challenge to our own success – we are the potential chaos to our own story.

I loved this book – Ego is the Enemy, releases June 14th.

His strategies are used as case studies by Twitter, YouTube and Google and have been written about in AdAge, the New York Times, Gawker and Fast Company. He’s advised many bestselling authors and multi-platinum musicians and became the Director of Marketing at American Apparel, where his work in advertising was internationally known.

On this show we talk about ambition, the power of humility, and accepting the possibility of plain ol’ dumb luck.
